If Marvin's a Meteorologist, then who's the radiologist?
So if anyone hasn't heard, Micheal Rupert (The OG Marvin) said that Marvin was a meteorologist on Instagram. I'm taking this as canon as the actors are only second to the writers in terms of deciding what's canon.
However, if Marvin Isn't the radiologist mentioned in Falsettoland, who is?
here are my thoughts about the character's respective careers and who's most likely to be what.
Marvin= Has a job ("I bring home the bacon), is quite well-off ("Salt of the bourgeoisie", can afford to pay Mendel 80/h just to ask him weird personal questions about his ex-wife) which is why I originally thought that he was the radiologist? he mentions being smart multiple times, and though we know act 1 Marvin is highly insecure about his intelligence, he would've used that as justification.
Whizzer- Not sure if he has a job? mentions he "puts the steak in" in contrast to Marvin in TTOFL, I...think he's canonically a photographer? he probably can't be the radiologist because Marvin keeps holding the "smarts" thing over him in act 1, which he wouldn't have if Whizzer had a doctorate.
Trina-We all know she used to have a job, but I think during In Trousers she quit to take care of Jason? throughout all of act 1, her role was that of the stereotypical housewife, so unless she became a radiologist in act 2...
Mendel-Is already a bad psychiatrist. he can't have a second job.
Charlotte-I know everyone thinks she's obviously the radiologist but I think it's mentioned multiple times that she's a doctor of internal medicine? It doesn't except her for possibly having a second doctorate, but I feel like it would've been mentioned at one point? plus, her nameplate only lists her as an internalist...
Cordelia- as mentioned in ADIF, has a MASSIVE inferiority complex to Charlotte because she feels she's not nearly as important or has as many achievements as Charlotte, namely, Charlotte's status as a successful doctor while she herself is a mediocre caterer. ("You save lives and I save chicken fat")
So maybe the radiologist is just a metaphor? maybe it's like the bed mentioned in Four Jews, and doesn't actually mean anything? maybe Bill Finn just put it in to throw us off? wouldn't be the first time.
